New DNC Chair a Bright Shining Star of Ignorance

On May 4th of this year Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D.-Fla.) was confirmed as chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee. Vice President Joe Biden wrote this about her nomination.

“In selecting Debbie to lead our party, President Obama noted her tenacity, her strength, her fighting spirit and her ability to overcome adversity”

Apparently President Obama forgot to also note her ignorance of the law and lack of common sense when making his remarks. In her first month as chairwoman her fired up rhetoric has shown just how little common sense is rattling around up there. Last week she denounced Republicans for believing that illegal immigration “should in fact be a crime.

Interestingly enough, illegal immigration is a crime under U.S. code 8 U.S.C. § 1325 and its respective amendments. Any alien who enters or attempts to enter the U.S. illegally is guilty of a misdemeanor upon the first offense and a felony upon subsequent offenses. Even if she was unaware of the law, it seems like someone who is not only a congresswoman but also the head of the DNC would have a little more common sense. After all the term illegal is in the language she used to denounce those evil Republicans and their mean intentions.

After Wasserman Schultz’s nomination Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley called her “A strong voice for ordinary people.” One thing we can take away from this is that our new DNC chairwoman must not consider the men and women who serve in our armed forces ordinary people. The question is, what does she consider those who put their lives on the line to protect our country? In April 2009 Wasserman Schultz commented on an amendment that would make attacks against military veterans a hate crime. Now putting the arguments for and against hate crime legislation aside, lets jump to an example of Representative Schultz standing up for ordinary Americans who deserve our respect for what they do every day. Commenting on the proposed hate crime amendment Wasserman Schultz said the following which looks a little more like denigration than a strong voice of support.

“I’m from a state, as Mr. Rooney is, that includes and represents the districts that include real victims. I represent a very large — one of the largest gay populations in the United States of America. One of the largest Jewish populations in the United States of America. My region — our region has a very large African-American population. It really is belittling of the respect that we should have for these groups to suggest that members of the armed services have somehow systematically been the victims of hate crimes.”

Now that the DNC has a new chairwoman and the 2012 campaign season is upon us. Today we get a taste of Wasserman Schultz’s 2012 strategy as she lies about the Paul Ryan Medicare plan. She claimed that this plan would deny Medicare coverage to seniors with preexisting medical conditions. Perhaps we should give her the benefit of a doubt. After all she may just need new glasses, although, the GOP plan does specifically state that insurance companies must agree to offer insurance to ALL Medicare beneficiaries. Check out both the claim and the facts here.
